Money spent on the new Brexit department proves Vote Leave’s pledges are already unravelling

Responding to the news that hiring new civil servants to deal with Brexit could cost £5bn over the next decade, Norman Lamb MP, Patron of Vote Leave Watch, said:

“During the EU referendum, Vote Leave ministers like Boris Johnson and Liam Fox promised us that Brexit would save £350m a week that would be spent on the NHS.

“But now it’s clear that Brexit will leave Britain in the red, as taxpayers’ money is shelled out on thousands of lawyers and consultants dealing with the incredibly complicated process of leaving.

“Less than a month after the referendum, Vote Leave’s pledges are already unravelling. They need to be held to account for their broken promises.”
