Commenting on the Prime Minister’s admission that it will take longer than two years to negotiate a free trade deal between Britain and the EU, Chuka Umunna MP, Chair of Vote Leave Watch, said:
"In less than a week since Article 50 was triggered, key Leave campaign promises are already falling by the wayside.
"They said we would have a comprehensive agreement covering both the divorce settlement and a free trade deal completed by 2019. But now the Prime Minister has admitted this isn't going to happen.
"Quitting the EU without a trade agreement that delivers 'the exact same benefits' as our Single Market membership will hit our trade, put up prices in the shops, and make working people worse off."
