Umunna – May’s “divisive” speech failed to bring Britain together after Brexit

Responding to the Prime Minister’s speech today, Chuka Umunna MP, Chair of Vote Leave Watch, said:

"The Prime Minister had a chance today to reach out to people, whichever way they voted in the EU referendum, and craft an inclusive vision that would bring the 52% and the 48% together. She comprehensively failed to do so.

"She should have outlined a Brexit deal that would have ended free movement as we know it, while defending the rights of EU citizens living in our country and keeping Britain a full member of the Single Market.

"This was a divisive speech that will end the best aspects of our EU membership, and utterly failed to bring the country back together after Brexit."
